$10.00
The Ravenscroft heirloom watermelon dates back just before the Civil War era. It was developed by Col. A. G. Summer brother of William Summer who founded Pomaria Nursery, one of the most prominent nurseries of the antebellum South in South Carolina. Once thought lost to time, The Ravenscroft was identified by Dr. James Everett Kibler under the name Leitzsey a mere 15 miles from its birthplace on Summer's Ravenscroft plantation.
With sweet pink flesh, the Ravenscroft heirloom watermelon grows large and round with a deep green rind/ skin and even darker stripes that have an almost slight deep blue hue. The seeds are a light tan/white with black spotting that often takes the shape of a horseshoe.
